Manager - Visitor Services & Museum Retail

Full-Time, Exempt $40,000-$45,000  

Hours:  T-Sa 9:30a-5:30p; Flexible

Job Summary:

The Manager of Visitor Services & Museum Retail will oversee three visitor-facing operational sectors: Museum StoreMuseum Rentals, and Visitor Services.  This person is responsible for developing and implementing procedures, and managing the operations that both raise earned revenue, and that enhance the visitor experience. The Manager will be a leader who directs the team towards operational excellence, and who proactively identifies opportunities to enhance the visitor experience.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provide and ensure the highest quality visitor experience, and promote the Museum’s mission and strategic goals in all activities.
  • Manage, supervise, and support Assistant Visitor Services Manger(s), and the Visitor Services Associates (VSAs), to ensure smooth daily operations, and meet the staffing needs, of the Front of House areas.
  • Working with Assistant Manager(s), oversee management of Front Desk, Museum Store, and Concessions/Food Service daily operations, including daily sales activities, visitor interactions, and cash management.

Museum Rentals/Events

  • Working with internal and external customers, this position is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Museum Rental Program, including scheduling, facilitating details, and coordinating support services.
  • Coordinate with both the VP of Administration, and other departments, to help support Museum events that require visitor services staffing and/or Front of House arrangements.

Museum Store

  • Establish and achieve sales goals ensuring store profits that support the mission of the Peoria Riverfront Museum.
  • Responsible for purchasing, merchandising, inventory, product development, marketing and budgeting of Museum Store.
  • Working with the VP of Administration, develop a vision for Museum retail, product selection, and planning, and build strategies and support systems to accomplish strategic goals.

Job Qualifications:

  • Must be visitor focused
  • Highly motivated and organized
  • Minimum of 2 years of retail management, customer service, or event planning experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, leadership and follow through skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products and point of sale systems
  • Ability to work full-time schedule which regularly may include evenings, weekends and some holidays
  • Ability to merchandise effectively
  • Ability to adjust priorities and manage time wisely
  • Ability to accurately maintain records and documentation
