Job Details:

Part time (unpaid), Tuesday-Thursday; average 24 hrs/week for 10 weeks

Desired start: June 3 with orientation 1 week prior

The Collections Department seeks 2-3 summer interns to assist with our comprehensive inventory of the Fine Art Collection consisting of approximately 3,730 works of art. The interns will gain practical hands-on experience with the preservation and documentation of 2-dimensional objects and will also spend time learning how to use the collections management system, Embark. In addition, collections assistant interns will learn proper object handling methods, re-housing, and documentation of the collections through cataloging and digitization. Other projects may include research projects within the collection and understanding collections policies and procedures.


Ability to work and communicate in a group setting • Must be highly sensitive to the necessity of confidentiality • Must be extremely detail-oriented • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills • Possess the ability to see projects through to completion • Ability to work well both with others and independently • Ability to lift and carry moderately heavy objects • Ability to crouch, climb, balance, sit, and stand for long periods of time • Ability to safely handle and transport artworks • Familiarity with database programs like Excel or collection management systems • Basic knowledge of history, art history and/or museum studies preferred • Experience with digital photography
