Position: Public History Fellow 

Compensation: $9,000 stipend plus provided housing with utilities 

Duration: 9 months, starting mid-August 2021 

Location: Illinois College, Jacksonville, Illinois 

The Public History Fellow provides support to Illinois College and the Illinois College campus community by offering services to the Khalaf Al Habtoor Archives [Archives] and Paul Findley Congressional Office Museum [Museum]. The Archives collects, preserves, and shares unique institutional, local, regional, and special collections reflective of the school’s rich history as the oldest degree-granting institution in the state, founded in 1829. The Museum interprets and preserves the life, work, and enduring legacy of Paul Findley (1921-2019), a 1943 graduate of Illinois College. The Archives and Museum at Illinois College are award-winning learning laboratories that serve as active hubs to enrich the curriculum, collaborate with the campus community, and engage local and global scholars. As campus resources, the Archives and Museum uniquely serve to uphold the mission and vision of Illinois College. The Fellow will join a dedicated and mission-driven team of engaged community members at a key moment in organizational history. This position is designed to support emerging public history professionals. The Public History Fellowship for 2021-2022 is made possible thanks to funding and support from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). The Public History Fellow will gain and develop a range of hands-on skills working with undergraduate students, historic collections, and engaging the public, primary responsibilities in 2021-2022 will be to support increased access and engagement with the Archives and Museum connected with planned NEH-endowed programming.
