 MUSEUM COORDINATOR

Job Summary:

Under general supervision from the Museum Coordinator, presents educational programs to various individuals and groups and interprets the collections, buildings, and history of the area to ensure that visitors have an enjoyable, informative, and safe visit.

Functions:

  • Undertake guided tours effectively communicating relevant and accurate information on the historic buildings and collections.
  • Encourage learning amongst all museum visitors across all age groups, including schoolchildren, adults, and individuals with special needs.
  • Assist with special events at the museum.
  • Greet groups and provide appropriate support to group leaders and visitors.
  • Ability to work at various tasks when programs are not being run, including research, collections management, light maintenance or cleaning of equipment or exhibits, operation of museum merchandise, and office duties.
  • Answer phone inquiries concerning activities and operations of the museum.
  • Assist in the preparation of program materials for regularly offered programs and special events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work 10-12 hours per week with a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
  • Must be available two Saturdays per month and select Sundays for special events.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • CPR certified or willing to obtain within 3 months of hire.

 

Education & Experience:

Minimum High School diploma.  Experience working with children.  Experience in related customer service or administrative position preferred.  Computer proficiency with Windows based software, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point).  Research skills preferred.
